“They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.” Psalm 82:5

In my frustration over a world that for the most part seems to have lost all form of common sense and decency, I found myself drawn to this verse. Our world is out of course, the darkness seems to be spreading, yet I know there is still light to be discovered and shared. I know that I have been called out of darkness.

“For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” 2 Corinthians 4:6

God possesses the power to bring an end to darkness. “He setteth an end to darkness, and searcheth out all perfection: the stones of darkness, and the shadow of death.” Job 28:3

“To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.” Isaiah 42:7

Regardless of the ever present reminder of darkness about us, we have been called out of darkness into light. Though we live in a world infiltrated by darkness, we still possess the ability through God’s provision to walk in the light.

“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.” 1 Peter 2:9-10

So we are to walk in the light . . . because we have been called out of darkness.

“For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:” Ephesians 5:8
