In the Hard

We each come to moments that catch us by surprise, hard moments from which we cannot see anything but brokenness on the other side. In the hard we can become strangled by fear or self pity, but in the hard there is hope if we simply readjust the focus of the lens through which we look.

It’s in the hard moments that God reveals Himself as He can in no other. It’s in the hard moments that we can see more clearly. As our view zones in on the sharpness of the pain we are experiencing all that exists outside fades and the hard clearly reveals God’s presence. It’s like looking through the keyhole and seeing what’s inside.

Over the past several months I’ve experienced some of the hardest moments of my life, but God has remained faithful and true. “Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations.” Deuteronomy 7:9

Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.” Deuteronomy 31:6

In the hard I find God faithful, in the hard I find Him true to His promises. If not for the hard I would never have known His presence as deeply as I do now. In the hard I see Him so clearly.

“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” Psalm 34:18
